PHILADELPHIA (Sept.  14, 2017) — If there’s one way to draw attention to blood, it’s finding a way to get it racing.
 
Carve 4 Cancer, http://www.carve4cancer.com a non-profit, charitable organization designed to increase awareness, and raise research funds for blood cancers, announced its exciting and adrenaline pumping 5th annual Carve 4 Cancer will be held Feb. 3, 2018, at a new location, the Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton, Pa.
 
Brent Evans, with the help of friends and family, created the charity and the Winter Festival fundraiser in 2012 after a two-year battle with a rare and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. What started as a small, winter fundraiser in the Pocono Mountain region, is now a full-scale 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation raising tens of thousands of dollars with multiple campaigns, sponsors and supporters nationwide.
 
Brent was an avid snowboarding enthusiast and outdoor lover. He believed a winter festival with live indoor and outdoor concerts, snowboarding competitions, art installations, and great food and drink would serve well to create a fun, boisterous event. It would draw plenty of guests willing to help a worthy cause and have some fun at the same time, he thought.
 
Mr. Evans was right. The winter festivals have been held each year since 2012 and the February 2017 festival was the most successful yet. The event had sponsors including Milwaukee Tool, K2, Gilson Snowboards, Tito’s Vodka along with many other businesses and individuals who supported the event as well.
 
Thousands from throughout the northeast attended the event. Sadly, Carve 4 Cancer 2017 was Brent’s last as he passed away due to complications from the disease in July 2017 at just 33 years old. Importantly, his legacy lives on with the help of close friends and loved ones who sit on the board of the non-profit charity. Also, after his passing the hashtag “#LiveLikeBrent” was created to commemorate how Brent lived life to the fullest, and people have been sharing their moments ever since.
 
“Brent was a very close friend to me, as he was to so many others,” said Josh Frank, a lifelong snowboarder and Carve 4 Cancer Marketing Director. “He had an electric personality. Losing Brent was devastating to so many. This charity is his legacy and his longtime friends and colleagues are dedicated to seeing his vision through, expanding Carve 4 Cancer to mountains all across the US, and finding a cure for this horrible disease.”
 
Frank said Blue Mountain Resort will be ideal for the fundraiser given its numerous amenities and proximity to major metropolitan areas such as Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Trenton.
 
The popular venue is celebrating its 40th anniversary this upcoming season and is home to 164 acres of skiable terrain. Blue Mountain Resort also boasts the highest vertical drop in the state at 1,082 feet. In addition to 39 ski trails, 16 lifts and 39 tubing lanes, Blue Mountain Resort maintains a full-service mountain top restaurant and several outdoor activities in the “green season,” including a high ropes course called the Summit Aerial Park, Outdoor Laser Tag, Action Archery, and Segway Tours.
 
The resort prides itself in giving back to the community, and is excited to partner with Carve 4 Cancer.
 
“Our mission is to get people outside and give them a reason to keep coming back, said Melissa Yingling, marketing specialist at Blue Mountain Resort. “Partnering with an organization like Carve 4 Cancer not only brings awareness to outdoors sports, but also to a cause created by an outdoor enthusiast himself. We are excited to host the event this year, and look forward to the success it will have, raising money for cancer research.”
 
Frank noted that 100 percent of the board members and volunteers for Carve 4 Cancer are unpaid and that all funds raised go toward making a maximum impact in the fight against blood cancer.
 
Dr. Andrei Shustov, M.D., is one of the main recipients of the donations from the various Carve 4 Cancer events. He is performing groundbreaking research in the field of Hepatosplenic T-Cell Lymphoma, the rare form of leukemia contracted by Mr. Evans.
 
Dr. Shustov is the lead investigator in analyzing data from multiple institutions in the country to better understand the disease process and the biology of this rare form of T-Cell Lymphoma.
 
“Understanding the disease is the first step to finding a cure,” Dr. Shustov said. “The funds from Carve 4 Cancer will support this very important research, and we would like to thank Carve 4 Cancer for their very generous donations on behalf of all investigators.”
 
Aisling Carroll, Brent’s girlfriend and Carve 4 Cancer board member, said she so proud his legacy is thriving.
 
“During Brent’s cancer journey,” Carroll said, “he would periodically ask me, ‘What if I don’t make it and what happens when I’m gone?’
 
“I’d tell him we weren’t close to crossing that bridge and to not worry about it. Losing him so suddenly was traumatic.
 
“When he was sick, he was excited for Carve to be rolling into its fifth year but worried about not being able to make calls or meetings. I’m happy to say and tell Brent right now, he still doesn’t have to worry. The team and I are going to blow this year’s festival out of the water, and carry his memory and his legacy along for the ride.”
 
One of the main events during the 5th Annual Pocono Mountain Carve 4 Cancer is the Rail Jam. The snowboarding and ski competitions draw top talent from across the region in Men’s, Women’s and Grom’s divisions. Thousands of dollars worth of prizes will be up for grabs. The Carve 4 Cancer team will also be announcing more than 10 bands and musical guests, sponsors, on mountain vendors, thousands of dollars in raffle prizes and much more in the coming months.
 
"As a two-time Hodgkins survivor and 12-year ski patroller, I couldn't be more proud to help contribute to the cure of this devastating disease,” said Carve 4 Cancer board member Fletcher Moppert. “With the continued support of our loyal fans, supporters and dedicated doctors we fund, C4C will someday soon shred blood cancers for good.”
 
Fellow board member Cameron Ferrara agreed.

Carve 4 Cancer Contributes $15K to UW Medicine Advancement

Carve for Cancer Inc. announced that on September 12, 2017 they have made yet another huge contribution to the University of Washington Medicine Advancement to benefit the research of Dr. Andrei Shustov. This year's contribution displays the organizations continued growth with an impressive $15,000! 

"I'm thrilled to see us making larger and larger direct donations to doctors making a difference,” Said Cameron Ferrara, Executive Director for Carve for Cancer. “It's proof that our mission to engage the snow and board sports industry while creating impactful and entertaining fundraising initiatives is working." 

Josh Frank, Marketing Director for Carve for Cancer agreed. "Our mission and commitment is as strong as ever." He said. "This year was a difficult year, due to the loss of our leader, and organization founder Brent Evans. This year's donation is made in Brent's honor, because without Brent Carve for Cancer wouldn't exist."

Dr. Andrei Shustov, MD Thanks Carve for Cancer Inc.

Carve for Cancer Inc. is committed to making the most of the dollars that come through our organization. Our team of 100% unpaid volunteers carefully selects the recipients of our fundraising efforts to ensure maximum impact in the fight against blood cancer. The major recipient of our 2016 Winter Festival was the Dr. Andrei Shustov, MD at the Univerisity of Washington Medicine Advancement. Dr. Shustov is Associate Professor, Division of Hematology at UW Medicine, and Associate Member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He is doing groundbreaking in the field of Hepatosplenic T-Cell Lymphoma. Check out this video of Dr. Shustov thanking Carve for Cancer! "KICK" for Cancer 2016 is Coming!

The third annual “Kick for Cancer” longboarding race event is being held on Sunday, September 11th on a closed section of Martin Luther King Drive in Philadelphia

The race is being produced by the non-profit organization Carve for Cancer Inc.. In 2012, Carve for Cancer Inc. was founded by Philadelphia native Brent P. Evans of East Falls. While being treated for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at Jefferson university, Brent met fellow outdoor sports enthusiast, Earl Stout, also a blood cancer survivor. Earl and Brent went on to found Carve for Cancer Inc. with the mission of “Shredding blood cancer through extreme sports events and fundraising.”   

“We are really stoked to get Philadelphia longboarders together again for a great cause.” Says Earl. “Kick 4 Cancer is my way of giving back and saying thank you for the support I had during my battle against cancer.”

Earl stressed the importance of this year’s event in particular. “This year’s event is even more important as our founder Brent Evans is currently battling his second round of cancer. It’s just another reminder how important the work is that we are doing.”

Incredible Turnout at Carve for Cancer 2016

Today we look back at the amazing day we had at Big Boulder for Carve for Cancer 2016! It was a truly remarkable event. Thousands showed up to ski, ride, and help Carve raise over $10,000 for blood cancer research! 

"We were overwhelmed by the sheer number of people that showed up on the mountain to be a part of Carve 2016" recalls Josh Frank, Treasurer and Marketing Director for Carve for Cancer Inc.  "The lodge was overflowing with people enjoying music, engaging with vendors, and supporting our fight agains blood cancers. A big thanks goes out to everyone that showed up, donated and especially to our sponsors who none of this is possible without. It was really just an amazing day."

The Carve team says that while they are celebrating the success of 2016, it is now time to move forward, switch gears and focus on 2017.
